Duncan meets with Net Zero Tsar as work begins on UK’s Net Zero Carbon Building Standard Governance Board.

Duncan Baker Brown has been working with colleagues on the UK’s Net Zero Carbon Building Standard Governance Board (it’s a mouthful!).

Last week Duncan met with the governments Net Zero Tsar and MP Chris Skidmore.

Skidmore launched his Net Zero Report two weeks ago with a very positive response. Surprisingly the report was commissioned by Liz Truss when she was briefly PM, probably expecting it to prove low carbon/ net zero was too expensive to go for…. anyway the report says the exact opposite.

Duncan represents UK architects on the NZCB Standard governance board which has members from all institutions dealing with construction matters. It is chaired by David Partridge of developers Forward Argent, and they will publish the hugely anticipated NZCB Standard in the Summer. The idea is that this standard will give the industry a set of net zero rules to apply to the construction industry…. and crucially, the hope is that it will be adopted by UK Government and will inform new building regulations. So watch this space.

The Prime Minister has also now created a new Department for Energy Security & Net Zero – so hopefully things are moving in the right direction.
