It’s great to see the return of our Female Firsts Exhibition which is now on show, 3rd floor reception area of Mithras House.
This year’s Female Firsts Exhibition to celebrate International Women’s Day has four new additions for 2022. They are –
Rebecca Welch – first female National League football match referee.
Sarah Winckless – first female umpire for the men’s Oxford Cambridge Boat Race.
Rachael Blackmore – first female winning jockey of the Grand National.
Christina Koch and Jessica Meir – first all female space walk.
Architecture, Spatial and Product Design Technical Demonstrator, Claire Hoskin has compiled the collection of female achievements over the last few years with the help of friends and colleagues. IWD 2022 seems an especially important time to celebrate ground breaking women in various professions and roles.
While we can safely and peacefully admire female achievements it is worth remembering Ukrainian women’s achievements over the last few days. Volunteers have been weaving camouflage netting and making petrol bombs, while others have been forced to give birth in basements or flee their country, often on foot, to keep their children safe.
So we are wishing everyone a safe and peaceful International Women’s Day.
