Have you heard the rumours that our student society DASS: Design and Architecture Student Society (formerly BIAAS) is relaunching this year! If so we can confirm these rumours are true. After a difficult two years this year we are hoping that the relaunch will help students meet each other, build a sense of community, share ideas and participate in a range of activities.
To provide a little context, this society is run for and by the students – YOU! This includes Architecture, Interior Architecture, Product Design and our Integrated Foundation Year. Pre Pandemic BIAAS was a key part of student life across all our courses and we are confident that the time is right to once again build a thriving Student Society.
A former BIAAS member has described it as “an essential team effort within the Architecture and Design programme to create, friendships, memories and share culture – working together to form an amazing show that you will all be part of.”
Historically the society aimed to raise funds for end of year shows and publication of student work through a variety of events including… Club nights, Cake sales, Yoga sessions, Pub Quizzes, and more. There was also a very successful BIAAS Lecture Series where Architects, Academics and Designers from far and wide came to speak to our students.
Ultimately the aims of this new society will be up to you.
We plan to kickstart BIAAS/DAS with a series of events on Tuesday evenings from 5pm and then let you the students take the baton and make it what you wish:
*Tues 4th Oct DASS/BIAAS kick start event “experience rooms”
Tues 11th Oct Phono-copy: Drawing night* Note over road room E30
Tues 18th Oct Film night (continue monthly)
Tues 25th Oct Meet the staff: Pecha Kucha night (10×10)
Tues 1st Nov DASS/BIAAS recruitment.
*For the first event we are calling for participants to create a series of experience rooms where you will immerse yourselves and get a flavour of the types of events that have been run in the past. For this we are calling any keen DJ’s who wish to do a set? Bakers, Yogi or Quiz Masters… but other ideas are more than welcome.
If you are interested in helping out please do get in touch with Lucy-Ann Gilbert (BAIA course leader) via L.A.Gilbert@brighton.ac.uk by 12noon on Tuesday 27th September!
We look forward to welcoming you all back soon!
