In the past twelve months there have been some unprecedented challenges to all student’s mental health and wellbeing but with some unique challenges for students studying practical courses.
Many of the normal challenges faced by our students around motivation, creativity and juggling multiple tasks have been exacerbated by being away from the studio. “All around the world SoAD students have been working in bedrooms, kitchen tables and cramped spaces – it has been really tough” said SSGT Justine Devenney “We know you miss being in a creative studio environment, the spontaneous input from friends and staff. Being online is not the same as physical collaboration and interaction with the technical team and the facilities that allow for you to get stuck into making. However, many SoAD students have risen to the challenge of working at home and have shown amazing creative adaptability”
We want to celebrate this newfound resilience that every student has found by launching a competition called ‘When Home Becomes Studio’
