The final SoAD Lunchtime Research Talk is from Neal Shasore on Monday 22nd March at 1pm. Neals talk is entitled Empire and Materiality in Interwar Britain.
In this talk Neal will discuss some of the research he has conducted for a new history of the RIBA’s headquarters at 66 Portland Place. He will draw attention to its imperial iconographies and materialities, in particular in connection with the Empire Timbers campaigns of the 1920s and 1930s. Through this example, he will open up questions about heritage and conservation, and reflect on recent calls to ‘decolonise’ space and the city.
Congratulations also as Neal has just been announced as next Head of School of the London School of Architecture.
The talk is supported by the Centre for Spatial, Cultural and Environmental Politics.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
