The countdown has begun as the School of Architecture and Design staff and students are building the End of Year Graduate Show. In previous years Architecture and Interior Architecture Courses have showcased student work in a range of venues. From the main gallery at the University City Campus, to the now sadly demolished Circus Street Market, and who can forget last years incredible show in the blistering heat on the amazing Hastings Pier. This year for the first time ever we will be hosting the show in our very own Mithras House so visitors will get to see student work in situ.
Staff and students have been work flat out, knocking down studio walls and installing new work stations and alongside putting the final touches to their projects. It is a juggling act and back breaking work at times, but for the students taking part in building the show it is an important part of their degree.
Construction projects, such as designing and building an exhibition help students explore the role of technology in architectural education, gain experiential learning opportunities, and a better understanding of the sustainable use of materials. The aim being to engender a culture of making in students. The transferable knowledge and the attainment of making skills that can be learned through the design and construction of the show are hugely valuable.
This year the show features work by students from architecture, interior architecture and product design courses with a backdrop of The Big Build project – the largest building site in Brighton & Hove. The private view starts at 4pm on Friday 7th June – prize giving at 7.30pm. Come along to get a closer look at the innovative work created by students at Brighton. Drinks, music, students, dancing, sunsets.
