Phil Hall Patch: Conjoining photography and sculpture.

BA Architecture Tutor Phil Hall Patch’s MRes research has been looking at the conjoining photography and sculpture.

On Friday 24th September Phil Hall-Patch held a one-day exhibition at the Edward Street School of Media & Photography, presenting his MRes practice-based research on “Photography ‘with’ Sculpture”.

Where, historically, photographs have often been taken ‘of’ sculptures, or more recently used ‘as’ or ‘in’ sculpture, photography ‘with’ sculpture explores how the making of sculpture might be captured in abstract camera-less photographs using only paper and light sensitive chemicals. Here, ephemeral salt sculptures have been combined with salt photography, the material of one used in the making of the other.

The exhibition displayed the artefacts produced over an 8-week period of creative inquiry along with live demonstrations of the processes developed.
