Studio 06 Design–Make workshop, Flimwell.

Studio 06 have been continuing their exploratory investigations and understanding of site and material in the High Weald.

A beautiful autumn day in the woodlands of Flimwell, allowed students working together in groups to design and fabricate a temporary connection to a part of the landscape, using only materials provided on the day and available from the woodland. Led by David Saunders, an experienced forester, the student groups were challenged to engage with the techniques and tools of sustainable forestry practice to inform the process of design and fabrication.

Following on from the forest workshop, students will now be individually developing and making a watertight ‘skin’ element and associated structure back in the university workshops, which must be designed to accommodate the specific conditions of their chosen site location.
