Through model making and collage, students have proposed processes for taking ownership of the new territory. These are conceptual studies aimed to examine atmospheres and mechanisms – they have remained speculative and open, suggestive rather than prescriptive.
Students constructed conceptual models to explore spatial colonisation, based on the environmental needs analysis carried out earlier. These variously comprised volumetric studies, traces of time, artefacts and site findings.
Collages were used to explore the integration of the existing site fabric with new activities and materiality. The outcome was a holistically framed composition of the building and its programme – marrying the needs of the colonists with the site-specific opportunities provided by their new home.
