Timepiece testing in Valley Gardens

This week students have been testing their timepiece devices in Brighton’s Valley Gardens territory. These devices seek re-present specific characteristics of the local and cultural landscape which evidence the particular relationships of the locality and mediate between body and landscape.

In practical terms, the device operates as a ‘canvas’ to capture and record particular changing characteristics of the site or as an ‘instrument’ to communicate ‘data’ in ‘real time’ as dictated by climate, geography, local materials and local traditions.
