Students can begin to understand the symbiotic relationships by making hybrid models and drawings that dissect the site, its cultures, rituals and habits and by exploring the familiar and the unfamiliar. Craft is at the heart of this spatial inquiry.
We find that cultures and communities may be defined by specific behaviours, obsessions, and an idiosyncratic relationship with the built environment. A symbiotic relationship can be private or civic, environmental or political, personal or fictional. The individual student decides, not as a passive observer but by being proactive, passionate and experimental.
