Earlier this month Studio 12 made its visit to St. Leonards, Hastings for a seaside site survey. A wintry fog and cold day made for a good introduction to the difficulties of designing for a seaside climate. To study the effects of sea air and its erosive properties the studio stopped at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. Studio 12 tutor Sean Albuquerque and a trustee of the pavilion gave us a tour focusing on the buildings environmental challenges. The studio is now working on site strategies for a live-work project on the site of the old bathing pools in St. Leonards.
